EXERCISE #1 - Brewing on Automatic Filter Brewers & Describing the Brew
EXERCISE #1
In these activities we will use the following devices so that you can complete an optional Learner Worksheet (attached)
- #1 An automatic filter brewer
- #2 A manual gravity brewer
- #3 At least one other device available to AST
If you would like specific coffees for this exercise, you should pick up some from your locally roastery or from the SCA.Training Lab with our complete Coffee Sensory Training Kit.
Describe the Brew
Learners should try to describe the following sensory attributes of brews created during this activity.
- Color - visual appearance (color & clarity)
- Aroma (using the SCA Coffee Taster's Flavor Wheel attached)
- Taste (includes sweetness, acidity, and bitterness, and also flavors from the SCA Coffee Taster's Flavor Wheel)
- Body (the tactile sensation imparted by the beverage)
- And other items noted on the foundation tasting notes worksheet.
